Salmon Beats The Cork Blackwater runs just four miles from Ballyhass Lakes. We have available beats on a private stretch of double and single bank in the upper reaches of the river. Many of the beats are set well back from any roads and give a variety of good fly and spinning waters. State Licence can be purchased at the Pavilion. We stock a supply for Salmon flies and baits. A ghillie can be provided with prior notice.
One of the best known beats is the Horseshoe Inch:

The Horseshoe Inch This beautiful Beat is the in the shape of a horse shoe and contains some of the best pools.
On the right is the first gate, after closing it behind you, proceed through a few gates to the parking areas also shown on the left. Please park so as not to block the gate way. You must walk from this point.
The Beat Starts from the trees on the right hand side. The first run is the Barrows which provides excellent bank fishing for Fly or bait. It can hold big fish. There is no wading on this stretch. The river forms the 'parson hole' on the southern shore.
On the left is the run into the 'Bog hole' shown at low water. Wading is good here. Cast towards the concrete slabs on the southern shore. This can be very effective fly water. The bog hole provides excellent holding for Salmon.
The Right hand picture shows the bog hole. Capt. Furberts Stream leads from the bog hole and this can be very effective for Salmon particularly in high water.
The Swing Bridge Pool holds Trout and Salmon and is wadeable from the North bank. As the river swings to the north, there is a crossing point to and from the North bank. The beat does Not include fishing from the north bank and this is for access only.
The Remainder of this beat is difficult to access due to overhanging trees. After the trees there is Brides Corner which can be good for bait and worm.
The next beat is French's Inch and this is access by the path on the high ground.
