Take a fly casting lesson at Ballyhass lakes

It only take one hour to get the basic of fly casting and it may fuel a passion that could last a lifetime. there is a free lesson with every rental taken before July 2012

Take a mountain  looped walk on Mount Hillary  -  trailhead only 20 minutes away

One of many looped marked walkways in the Duhallow area  no difficult and there are three loop starting from the same trailhead. See this list for other walks in Duhallow

Reduced entry prices to the corporate boxes at Cork Race Course Mallow ( 10 mins away)

Check their web site for their calander of races days. Come to reception and will arraange a discounted price for you and even get you into the corporate section!

Go to a Local Trad Session in our village at the Boreen twist - every Thursday night and weekends.

Padraig our local landlord is a great musician, he leads regular genuine sessions where the musicians play for themselves every Thursday and often at weekends.  Call in and say hello to Padraig

Visit the Donkey Sanctuary at Liscarroll ( 20 mins)  see video

Part of the world wide Donkey Santuary is one of the best. Call in a view the displays and you are free to walk all round the Donkey paddocks.  A really nice hour or so for all the family

Take the kids to the free  playground at Doneraile Park ( 20mins)

With the kids in mind there is a recent play ground added to Doneraile National Park,. You can park the car right next to the play area.

Go Road bowling   See Great Video - strong tradition in this area.

Usually on Sunday mornings there is a match around our area. It is a great couple of hours where you will really experience the local people at play.

Attend a hurling Match ( Video)-  Castlemager and Ballyclough pitches only 5 mins away

We are fortunate to have 2 GAA clubs close by. Visitor who have not expereinced a match should make every effort to see this great game as it is played by local guys.  The game can be so fast you really need to be at the pitch to apprecite the skill and speed required. 

Go Set Dancing at Lahern Cross ( video)

One of the best locations In ireland for outdoor dancing is only 20 minutes from Ballyhass. Once again meet real local people enjoying themselves in this time honoured tradition.  

Walk the Island Wood in Newmarket

A beautiful looped walk though the mixed forest , very firm underground, and reasonably flat - no excuses get out there!

Go to Nango Nagle Centre for Yoga and the cosmic walk

Nano nagle was the founder of the Presentation Order of teaching nuns, and this centre is in her honour.  Visit the centre just to walk around their organic gardens take a self guided walk on their Cosmic trail ( buy a guide  at the reception ) or take part in their regular Meditation and Yoga sessions from March2012

Visit the Dino Cafe and museum in Castletownroche.

A museum with realy life size modiel of Dinosaurs with amazing backrgound information on all aspect of dinozaur life.  For all Ages.

Go to Longueville house for afternnon tea or Dinner ( 5 mins)

Treat yourself to lunch or afternoon tea at Longueville House one of Ireland's country house treasures. Go wild and book dinner the food is fantastic. Great value mid week.  Call in an see for yourself it is only minutes away on the main road to Mallow

Take a family pass to the Leisure centre and pool at Charleville Park Hotel.

From our good friends and partners in tourism, we can arrange for a family pass to their modern leisure facility ( but not usually in July or August)

Go Mountain Bike at the Ballyhoura Mountains  see details and video

Over 35,000 people cycled these traills last year - do they know something that we don't? This is a superb activity on over 57 k of mountian tracks- D'ont worry you do not have to do them all, there are marked routes of various lengths and degress of difficulty.  Establsed as Ireland best mountian bike location you are only 30 minutes away from the thrill of a lifetime 

Join the Ballyhoura Bears Walking club on their twice weekly walks

Ballyhours best walking club - great guys  - very active with two walks every week. Visitor welcome. Check out their schedule and give them a call if you need to know the degree of difficulty of any proposed walk
